Paris [France], February 11, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the establishment of the AI Foundation and the Council for Sustainable AI, emphasizing global collaboration in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, which he co-chaired with French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi stressed the importance of making the Global Partnership for AI truly inclusive, particularly by addressing the concerns and priorities of the Global South.
“I welcome the decision to set up the AI Foundation and the Council for Sustainable AI. I congratulate France and my dear friend President Macron for these initiatives and assure our full support,” Modi stated.
Expressing India’s commitment to responsible AI development, Modi revealed that the country is building its own Large Language Model (LLM) through a public-private partnership, ensuring access to computing resources for startups and researchers at affordable costs. He also offered to host the next AI Action Summit in India.
Highlighting the ethical concerns surrounding AI, Modi asserted that while some fear machines surpassing human intelligence, the responsibility to guide AI’s future remains with humanity. “We are at the dawn of the AI age that will shape the course of humanity. Some worry about machines becoming superior in intelligence to humans. But no one holds the key to our collective future and shared destiny other than us humans,” he said.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi called the summit a “commendable effort” to unite world leaders, policymakers, and innovators for discussions on AI’s future.
