Arvind Kejriwal Meets Newly Elected AAP MLAs, Vows Strong Opposition in Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, February 9, 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal met with the party’s 22 newly elected MLAs on Sunday, following the recent Delhi Assembly election results. Despite the BJP securing a historic win with 48 seats, Kejriwal emphasized the crucial role AAP will play as a strong opposition to hold the new government accountable. During the meeting, Kejriwal urged the MLAs to ensure the continuation of public welfare schemes initiated by AAP over the past decade. He highlighted that the party’s duty now is to ensure that developmental work in Delhi does not come to a halt under the BJP-led government.

Outgoing Chief Minister Atishi reiterated that AAP will keep a close watch on the BJP to ensure they fulfill key election promises, particularly the Rs 2,500 monthly financial support for women. She stated that AAP will not allow the progress made in areas like free electricity (up to 300 units), quality education in government schools, free healthcare through Mohalla Clinics, and improved government hospitals to be undone. AAP leaders Sahiram Pahalwan and Sanjeev Jha echoed these sentiments, promising to focus on preserving the party’s achievements while ensuring the BJP delivers on its commitments to Delhiites.

On the other hand, BJP’s Rekha Gupta, the newly elected MLA from Shalimar Bagh, criticized AAP’s governance, labeling it an “AAPda” (disaster) for Delhi. She accused Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia of prioritizing personal interests over public welfare. Gupta claimed that the people of Delhi saw through AAP’s alleged misgovernance, attributing the BJP’s victory to the strong leadership and popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Delhi Assembly election results marked a significant political shift, with the BJP returning to power after 27 years, winning 48 seats, while AAP secured 22 seats. The Congress faced another setback, failing to win any seats for the third consecutive time. As the BJP prepares to form the new government, AAP is positioning itself as a vigilant opposition, promising to hold the ruling party accountable, protect its flagship programs, and continue advocating for public welfare, particularly in education, healthcare, and women’s financial support.
