New Delhi (National Times): A woman from Samastipur, Bihar, welcomed her baby girl in a train coach at Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi, thanks to the prompt assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
On Thursday, RPF Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari quickly sprang into action after receiving information about the woman in labor. She coordinated with a police constable and fellow passengers to assist with the delivery before arranging transportation to a hospital for further care.
“I was on duty when I got the call. I immediately requested an ambulance. A woman from Samastipur was experiencing labor pains. With the help of a police constable and other women in the coach, we assisted with the delivery and then took them to the hospital,” Kumari told ANI.
RPF Inspector Shailendra Kumar confirmed that both mother and child are in good health. “We received reports from a train traveling to Saharsa about the woman’s labor pains. Our female Sub-Inspector and staff responded promptly, and with assistance from other women on board, the delivery was successfully carried out. An ambulance then transported them to the hospital,” he stated.
In a related incident in 2024, a woman gave birth on a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus, with help from the conductor and fellow passengers. Identified as Shweta Ratnam, she experienced intense labor while traveling on a 1Z RTC bus from Musheerabad Depot, having boarded at Aramghar. The situation escalated as the bus reached Bahadurpura.
TSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar praised the conductor and the passengers for their swift and compassionate response during the emergency.
