Tarn Taran (Gurpreet Singh): To ensure a peaceful and transparent voting process for the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election, the district administration has implemented a 72-hour ban on campaign activities and public gatherings. The restrictions will remain in force from 6:00 PM on November 9 until 6:00 PM on November 11, 2025, the day of polling.
The order, issued by District Magistrate Rahul (IAS) under the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), prohibits all election-related meetings, rallies, and protests within the constituency. Entry of campaign workers or supporters from outside Tarn Taran has also been restricted during this period.
Authorities have further disallowed the display or transmission of political content, including opinion polls, surveys, and advertisements, through television, social media, and cinema halls that might sway voter sentiment.
Security measures have been tightened around polling stations, with gatherings of more than five individuals banned within a 100-metre radius. The use of loudspeakers and sound systems for campaign purposes has also been suspended.
Vote counting is scheduled for November 14 at the International College of Nursing in Piddi, where similar curbs will remain in effect from November 11 evening until counting concludes.
District Magistrate Rahul clarified that door-to-door canvassing is still permitted, but warned that group meetings or violations of the order would attract action under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 2023.
“The restrictions are preventive and aimed at maintaining peace, order, and the sanctity of the electoral process,” he said, adding that the prohibitions will remain effective until November 14.
The Tarn Taran by-election has gained considerable attention, with authorities determined to prevent any disruption or malpractice in the run-up to polling day.
