Chandigarh, August 4 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of neglecting the poor for decades despite being in power for 55 years. Speaking at a state-level event in Panchkula for the distribution of housing allotment letters under the Chief Minister Rural Housing Scheme 2.0 and interim ownership certificates under the Urban Housing Scheme, CM Saini emphasized the contrast between past Congress rule and the current “double-engine” government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said that while Congress only gave empty promises to the poor, the Modi government provided dignity and essential facilities to them. “In Congress rule, the poor became poorer. But under PM Modi’s leadership, both the Centre and the Haryana government have brought about visible changes in millions of lives through welfare schemes,” he said.
Highlighting achievements, CM Saini noted that unlike Congress, which failed to even give legal possession of land to the poor, the current government has granted ownership documents and 100-square-yard plots to beneficiaries. He criticized Congress for never implementing its promises on the ground and only announcing schemes near elections.
Touching upon several key welfare initiatives, Saini credited the Modi government for introducing the Ujjwala Yojana to provide gas cylinders and relieve women from the burden of smoke-filled kitchens. He also mentioned that Haryana now supplies cylinders to poor families at just ₹500, benefitting 18 lakh households.
Addressing women’s issues, Saini pointed out the historical neglect of women’s needs, like access to clean drinking water and sanitation. “Modi’s efforts through Nal Se Jal and the Swachh Bharat Mission have significantly improved dignity and health for women,” he said.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, CM Saini stated, “Those who ruled for 55 years now pretend to care about the poor. They spread lies like the Constitution is under threat, but the real threat is to the Congress party itself.”
He defended government policies on land rates, saying that contrary to opposition claims, 80% of Haryana has seen only a 10% increase in collector rates, based on standard legal procedures.
On financial inclusion, he lauded the Jan Dhan Yojana, calling it a move that brought respect to the poor. “Congress made it nearly impossible for a poor person to open a bank account. PM Modi changed that.”
He also responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of Jan Dhan accounts by challenging him to look at the data showing how the poor have used these accounts to save money over the last decade.
Speaking on healthcare, he highlighted the impact of Ayushman Bharat and Haryana’s Chirayu scheme, which together have helped over 22 lakh beneficiaries receive free treatment up to ₹5 lakh, amounting to over ₹2,500 crore in expenditure.
Calling the opposition’s politics based on lies and misinformation, CM Saini concluded, “The people of Haryana are now aware. They know who’s working for them. The double-engine government is dedicated to the welfare of the poor, women, and farmers and this commitment will continue.”
