487 Indians in the US Face Deportation Orders: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri

New Delhi (National Times): India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, announced on Friday that the United States has informed India about 487 individuals identified as Indian nationals who have received removal orders. These individuals are reportedly at risk of deportation from the US.

During a press briefing, Misri stated that the Indian government is actively engaging with the Trump administration to ensure the safe return of those identified as illegal immigrants. He emphasized that the Indian authorities are closely monitoring the situation and collaborating with US officials to address the concerns surrounding these individuals.

Regarding the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants, Misri noted, “The External Affairs Minister has described the standard operating procedures regarding the use of restraints as communicated by US authorities, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This practice has been in place for a considerable time.”

Addressing concerns about the treatment of deportees, Misri acknowledged these as “valid concerns,” assuring that the Indian government will raise the issue with US authorities. “We will continue to address any reported instances of mistreatment and advocate for action against the systemic issues that foster illegal immigration,” he stated.

In related news, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the US from February 12-13. During this trip, he will meet with President Donald Trump, making him one of the first world leaders to visit following Trump’s inauguration, according to Misri.
