20 Dead in Jaisalmer Bus Fire; PM Modi Expresses Grief, Announces ₹2 Lakh Ex-Gratia

National Times Bureau :- At least twenty passengers were burnt alive and several others critically injured after a private bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire on Tuesday, the police said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of deceased.

“Distressed by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” PM Modi said in a post on X on Tuesday night.

Local residents and passerbyrished to the spot and assisted in rescue oefforts. Army personnel also assisted in the operation.

Jaisalmer administration confirmed that relief and rescue operations were launched immediately. Meanwhile District Collector  Pratap Singh directed officials to ensure that all injured passengers received prompt medical attention, and helpline numbers were issued for families seeking information about those affected.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma arrived in Jaisalmer to inspect the accident site.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Sharma said, “The incident of a bus catching fire in Jaisalmer is extremely heart-wrenching. I express deep condolences to those affected by this tragic accident. Directions have been given to concerned officials for the proper treatment of the injured and to extend every possible help to the victims.”

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, also expressed his condolences, saying, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives in the tragic bus fire incident in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
