Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh) October 7, 2025: At least 18 people lost their lives when a private bus traveling from Marotan to Ghumarwin was buried under debris after a massive landslide struck near Bhallu Bridge in Barthin, along the Shukhar Khad. The force of the slide ripped off the bus’s roof, leaving it completely buried under mud and boulders.
Rescue teams managed to save three children two girls and one boy from the wreckage. One of the girls reportedly lost her mother in the incident. The survivors are currently being treated at the Barthin hospital.
Officials said around 35 passengers were onboard when the tragedy struck around 6:30 a.m. Both the driver and conductor were among the deceased. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining victims as search and rescue teams continue their operations amid challenging conditions.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the devastating incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims. He assured that the state government stands firmly with those affected and will provide every possible form of support.
The Chief Minister has directed district authorities to accelerate rescue and relief work and ensure immediate medical attention for the injured. He is personally monitoring the situation from Shimla.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri left the Kullu Dussehra celebrations midway to reach the accident site and review the ongoing rescue efforts.
