Patna, July 23, 2025 — The Election Commission of India has revealed that approximately one lakh voters remain untraceable in Bihar as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The announcement comes amid a massive exercise involving the enumeration and verification of voter data across the state.
According to the Commission, enumeration forms for 7.17 crore individuals have already been received and digitised. However, significant discrepancies have emerged. Around 20 lakh voters have been marked as deceased, while another 28 lakh have been identified as having permanently relocated from their registered addresses. Additionally, officials noted that forms for 15 lakh electors have not been returned by local polling agents or authorities.
The draft electoral roll is scheduled for publication on August 1, marking the completion of the first phase of the SIR process. The Election Commission has invited the public and political parties to examine the draft roll carefully. If any errors are found such as incorrect inclusion or missing names objections and claims can be submitted to the respective electoral registration officers until September 1.
The revision drive is considered vital in ensuring the accuracy and transparency of the voter lists ahead of the next major electoral exercise in the state.
