Toronto — One person was killed and five others injured in a late-night shooting incident that unfolded in the Lawrence Heights area of Toronto on Tuesday, June 3.
Toronto Police responded around 11:50 PM to reports of gunfire in the area of Varna Drive and Flemington Road, a residential neighbourhood located near the Yorkdale Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, officers found six individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw confirmed that one male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining five victims were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to critical.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but no arrests have been made and no suspect information has yet been released. Officers are continuing to canvass the area for surveillance footage and are appealing to witnesses to come forward.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the act of violence, calling it “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” and assured the public that safety remains a top priority.
